What Members Thought
An amazing young woman, that aims to tell her amazing story. But for me, it lacked something that would make me keep reading. I felt obligated to finish this book, which is not a good sign.
I enjoyed reading this story of Malala's efforts to seek education for herself and other girls in her country. Several reviewers critique the uneven tone of the book which is valid as you can clearly see the influence of cowriter Christina Lamb. I found the parts about the history and culture of the Swat region rather fascinating but would have liked more of Malala's story.

I’m left with a sense of the wide expanse of the human experience and a profound understanding that there is much I do not know about the world. Of course, I’m also brimming with excitement to learn which feels like a nice way to honor this story & author.
This book had the "feel" of a lot of ghostwritten books, where I felt like I could see the skeleton of interviews that lay beneath the prose. In other words, the story was important to tell, the writing was not great. But Malala's story certainly deserves a wise audience and I'm glad that this book was one way to do that.
