From the moment I heard the sweeping, glorious introductory music, I knew I was going to love this audiobook and I was not wrong. Edward Herrmann expertly narrates this exciting tale of the American quest for glory at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. There were a few bits in the first half that seemed repetitive (how many different ways can you describe rowing?), but the triumphant passages about close races were so thrilling that it more than made up for it.

Excellent! I would definitely read this again. The audiobook narration by Edward Hermann was very good, too, although it's a shame he never knew the correct pronunciation of Oregon ;-)

Edward Hermann narrates, which is just like a gut punch of all my Gilmore Girls / rowing nostalgia at once.
I might have put this book down had I tried to read it as a physical copy (god, MORE WWII? SERIOUSLY?), but kept going because the narration is really well done. I loved the quotes from Pocock at the beginning of chapters, the description of boat building, and the story of Joe Rantz that served as the emotional heart of the story.
