A sweet adventure/mystery novel, this book reminded me of a grown-up set of characters living out the fantasies of one of my favourite childhood authors, Daniel Pinkwater. While DP's stories are set in a pre-internet world, where children can still sneak out to midnight movies and stumble upon excitement on their way, Sloan's story manages to keep some intrigue in a reality where most mysteries can be solved by calling a cell phone.
