The gang is back at it again and I love their chemistry! This second installment held my attention better than the first. I'm relieved how Brady was tied into the story but not as the centerpiece. This could be a completely independent story, but it makes sense to be happening in the same world with the same cast of characters. I can't wait to read the next one!

Having read several Stephen King books in the past year, I'm realizing that I enjoy his paranormal stuff better than those set in a normal world. The description of violence in both Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers is super gross. However, I appreciate how the tales unfold from multiple perspectives or timelines. Yes, better than Mr. Mercedes, but still far more formulaic and forced that what I expect from Mr. King. The lining up of events for maximum tension at the end was irritating because it mostly depended on characters (meaning Pete) making stupid-ass decisions, so people just miss connecting and have to chase around town and TIME IS RUNNING OUT OH NO. That kind of plotting irritates me.

Second books in a trilogy are always the weakest books (in my opinion) but Stephen King does a nice job here of not even introducing his protagonist until halfway through the book which jazzes up the story a bit. I'm going to miss Bill Hodges and his ragtag gang when this series ends.
