I was given this book as a gift. While I found the writing and storytelling style to be extremely charming (2 stars for that!), I read approximately 75% of the book before throwing it away because the promiscuous sex was unrelenting and, honestly, kind of boring. There was not much character development beyond these affaires.

Yet another outstanding Oprah book club selection! She sure knows how to pick'em.

I read this book for a class at Colby called Love and Imagination in Literature. I completely adored the class and everything we read. This, however, was the gem. The prose was amazing. I found myself rereading passages just to try to absorb the lush language. The story itself seems to be part fairy tale. The search for true love, the amazing power of the words, the total presence of the characters and settings was amazing. This is one of my all time favorite books. Thanks Prof. Boylan for putti

Truly, no one writes quite Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Although it does not reach the heights of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" it is still pretty awesome.
