Because I loved The Sparrow so much, I was more disappointed than if I had just read this sequel on its own merits. While this book followed the relevant plot lines to their inevitable conclusion, the methods were a bit contrived, and some of the dramatic points were sucker-punches. I can't give this 4 stars because quite frankly the middle 100 pages or more sort of bored me. The Sparrow was slow moving, too, but it kept me more engaged than Children of God did. True to form, though, the ending (I thought) was well done which redeemed the book quite a bit. It's a good continuation of the first book, but not nearly as gripping. ...more

"Children of God" is the sequel to "The Sparrow", which I read a few months ago. I figured that I should hurry up and read this one while "The Sparrow" plotline is still relatively fresh in my mind. It's a good read with touches of relligion/spirituality, sci-fi, romance and action/adventure. ...more
