Honestly - this would have got more stars if I didn't know I'll have to wait another five-six years potentially to read the next book in the series. From a total book standpoint - the book's not bad and definitely a return to form after the slightly boring/scattered narratives of the last book in the series. The last two hundred pages or so are pretty exciting but that doesn't excuse the 800 pages of bloated mess that came before it. This book could have been half the length and it would have been way better. Hell, if you cut out the descriptions of every single meal eaten by every character, that would easily eliminate at least 100 pages. Basically, this felt like a plodding, overlong setup for the next book which will maybe come out in the next ten years, and I will most definitely end up forcing

Since it's been almost two years since it's release, I decided to give this another read using the combined order with AFFC that someone has listed online. And you know what? These two books are much better together. It splits up plot lines that I felt were dragging, and just makes the whole thing feel complete.
