I got to some passage about the streets flowing with semen, and I was done. I'm not one of those readers who digs allegory and stylized whatever. If you liked Ballard, you'll like this. Just not for me.

Abandoning with 30 hours left to read. I just don't care enough. I'm not sure if I'd do any better with the paper or ebook - I can kind of almost see that it will eventually get somewhere I might find interesting? But I'm not prepared to stick around long enough to find out. Not this year. Not this pandemic.

A completely immersive novel about life in London in the 1850's. Told from multiple perspectives but mainly about Sugar a teenaged prostitute. Extremely detailed and realistic.

Dear Reader,
My father passed this book on to me years ago (I think it was at least two apartments ago, maybe more) and I have been meaning to read it, but because of its sheer size I kept putting it aside in lieu of other things. Can I just give big ups to a book set in the 19th century and dealing with sex that only uses the deplorable word "cunny" once? That's all I have to say on this topic.
