I loved this! Ms. Draper is amazing! Stella by Starlight deals with heavy subject matter in a kid friendly way. Draper doesn't shy away from the racism and segregation of the south in the 1930's but she also shows the hope. I loved that this book shows normal life for African-American families at this time in history, what school was like, chores and family time.
