I feel like I felt the first time I read Octavia Butler, I feel pulled apart and put back together with a new understanding of the world. I had no idea this was a novella until I'd finished 😄🤦♀️ as the story burnt through plot points, I simultaneously marvelled at the author's gumption and worried how the story would be sustained.

First of all, let me make it clear that, novelty aside, this is a very good book. The protagonist is interesting and fleshed out. The world-building is rich and yet not completely exposed - it's like the anti-Tolkien in that you know there is so much more that Okorafor knows about this world, that she hasn't revealed to us yet. In fact, there's a lot about Binti herself that has only been hinted at. The prose is beautiful and unobtrusive, and Robin Miles reads beautifully (as always).

Was not aware that this is a novella when I downloaded the audiobook, so it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but it was still an interesting story. I would love to read more sci-fi that incorporates characters of different cultures and will definitely be seeking out more of Nnedi Okorafor's stuff.
