I'm a reading fool so it's always fun for me to read what other people like me enjoy reading, what made them who they are. One of the shelves (from a violinist no less? random) was almost identical to shelves I have at home. The author's, artist's, chef's, and director's pages were interesting. I love reading about what other people think is worth reading! The illustrations of the book shelves are great. My only complaint is...where are all the librarians?? Only Nancy Pearl contributes as a representative of the library world. Granted she is the most famous librarian, and evidently the authors were going for well-known figures, but I felt like there were too many graphic designers, etc. who we picking weirdo books or books because they "look nice on the shelf" or "are the prettiest col

This is a wonderful coffee book to read and an excellent gift to any book lover. My Ideal Bookshelf asked more than 100 cultural figures (writers, chefs, architects, designers, etc) to share the books that matter to them most. Full of original paintings showcasing the contributors' personal book selections. You will delight in reading this book and come away from it with a looong list of books you want to read and reread.

I love this book and I love this concept: select a shelf of books that have made you who you are today. Are you kidding me!? How much time do you have? This is why I love hanging with book people (online, in our own homes! haha) to discuss books. Like I said yesterday, I love to collect titles and also to learn what makes people who they are. Maira Kalman, David Sedaris, Alice Waters, Patti Smith, Nancy Pearl... to hear their stories and to see a book I enjoy on their personal shelf is so cool!
