While the subject matter was interesting and the narration was good, this book could have been pared way down (in my opinion). I get what Larson is doing - describing passengers on the Lusitania in detail to allow the reader to establish a relationship with them - but it was too many characters described in too much detail. A book that I think does this more successfully is TITANIC: VOICES FROM THE DISASTER by Deborah Hopkinson, which follows only three or four characters and uses primary source

Larson always puts together good historical novels, and this was reliably solid. I have to admit that I was more interested in the stories of the passengers than some of the maritime history, but i definitely learned a great deal about the Lusitania's role in WWI (and how I erroneously thought we entered the war right after it was torpedoed...not two years later).
