A fun intersection of statistics and literature. His methodology is less rigorous, imo, than that of the authors behind The Bestseller Code, but this is far more entertaining. It's very much a "I wonder what the percentages would look like if I searched for..." book: What word does an author use most frequently? Do authors follow their own writing advice? There's data and there's literature. What's not to love?
What makes a great opening sentence? How can one conclude with some confidence whether a book was written by a man or a woman just by counting how many times they use certain seemingly innocuous words?
Did you know that Michael Connelly uses the word "nodded" quite a bit? Apparently in one of his books, his main character nodded 243 times.

When we analyze literature with the perspective of a computer analyst we don't get a very interesting book.
I picked this up with the idea that the author really loved literature. Hopefully, he would ponder how many similarities in great literature. However, we get no love.
