I read this all in one day and I'm like, still processing it? I mean on one level, I obviously couldn't put it down, so that's something. But also: what is this
IDK I feel like this was definitely ambiguous on purpose, but I think for me as a reader, I would have appreciated a tiny bit more of like...what actually happened?
The character voices were great though!
Also: +1 star for Iowa nostalgia. Take me 2 the Taco John's plz!!! ...more

Good: this book. It's odd and sad and creepy and elusive. I'm not totally sure that I get what happened with the plot, but I think that's intentional. It's like old videotapes spliced together.

Started off sooooo weird and cool and scary (VHS's are scary!), and the ending was so boring and confusing and forgettable.

The novel starts out like a horror story but then morphs into something else entirely. It's an interesting read but some strands of plot never quite come to fruition ...3.5 stars
