This book was pretty dumb and felt like a slightly cynical mashup of a few other popular YA books, but like, it really made me appreciate The Hunger Games even more because Suzanne Collins made the world of Panem feel so real and you really understood the stakes for Katniss so deeply and so quickly, and here it was kind of like....oh they're poor I guess? some of them have super ...more

So, this book was ok. I admit I expected a lot more due to all of the 4/5 star reviews. But I guess I've read more than they have because I saw the big twist coming before the midpoint of the book. *shrug* I'm totally willing to read a sequel if the library gets it though.

Red Queen was an Addicted to YA BOTM for 2015. The story reminds me of a lot of other dystopian YA fiction, but I still felt compelled to read it quickly. Society is divided into two classes -- the privileged, magical Silvers and the common, oft-sent-to-perpetual-war Reds. Red Mare's life changes when she is sent to work for the silver royalty and discovers magic where it shouldn't exist.
