After her family moves to an old house that belonged to her great-grandfather, Emily and her younger brother Navin discover the amulet and are whisked into a parallel world called Alledia where they must figure out how to save their mother from the ferocious creature that's captured her.

I was hooked on this book from the 5th page and I couldn't put it down. The art is beautiful and the storyline is action-packed. I'll definitely be picking up the rest of the books and recommending it to fantasy

I've been wanting to read this for a long time, ever since my kids discovered it about ten years ago. Perhaps I built it up too much in my imagination and expected too much. Because this was so disappointing. I expected an all-ages graphic novel, and instead I got a kids' graphic novel. This was so simplistic and childish, the story was just so blah. This is completely engrossing. After the death of Emily's father (car crash that also involved her and her mother - heartbreaking art), Emily, her brother and her mother move to an old abandoned family estate. There, her mother is taken/eaten by a tentacled creature. Now it's up to Emily to save her mother - but is the amulet she found at the house helping her or sabotaging her? This is creepy, fantastic to look at and a very intriguing story. Can't wait for book two! ...more

Really lovely art, interesting ideas, but story-wise a little too convenient and deus ex literal machina for my taste. I think younger readers (its intended audience) would like it, though.
