This is not your typical WWII novel because it focuses on a lesser-explored aspect of the war -- namely the voyage of thousands of refugees, many of them of German descent, who fled the country in the wake of a Russian invasion. I quite liked this tale of a little known WWII nautical attack that killed 9000 people. The story is told by four different teens, each from a different country, each with something to hide and something they're seeking. The perspectives switch very quickly, averaging 1-5 pages per perspective and cycling back around. I thought this might make it hard to get to know the characters, but by the end I had a clear idea of who everyone was and the quick shifts definitely kept the pages turning. It re
