I haven't read enough spy novels to know if I do or don't like the genre as a whole, but this book was pretty "eh" for me. It just took a lot of work with all the crossing-double-crossing, what felt like millions of characters, and sometimes hard to follow descriptions. I'm sure this is fantastic if you really love spy novels. I don't and this one didn't make me. Still though - wonderful writing so I can't really say it was a waste to read it or give it less than three.

Good Cold War spy story. Unfortunately there are times in Le Carre's story where he lost me a little. Fortunately I found out that he is known for changing perspective/point of view which can be confusing to the reader - which was a bit of a relief. Felt less like a dumbass after learning this. Borrowed from Jen.
