An absolutely heartbreaking and stunning novel set during the time of the Shining Path insurgency told through the voices of three women: a revolutionary true-believer, a Quechua villager, and an upper-class reporter/photographer. Brutal, pain-soaked, and surreal.

This was a very interesting book. It took a bit to get into it because of the writing style: it kept switching between characters and there sections where it was just words with no structure. Once I got used to the style, it flowed better. The writing is spare, but extremely evocative. I was totally able to picture everything the author described.
