This will likely be very polarizing. If you supported Clinton in the 2016 election and felt crushed by her defeat, this will be an emotional read. If you hated Clinton, you will hate this book. (Really though, if you hate her, why read her book?)

I was a little surprised that she comes out swinging, throwing shade, but then I thought: why not? she's done running for office. By the time I finished the book, I thought that she hadn't thrown enough shade! A lot of the book is about her campaign, her

Absolutely fascinating account of the election cycle from HRC's perspective. I think it boils down that she ran what would have been a good campaign in any previous election year. And while she had many good people working for her, who helped Obama succeed, she needed to poach people from Bernie's camp. I enjoyed seeing life on the campaign trail, and details of what people did and how things got decided. This is a great and satisfying read, probably. It is dense, light, hopeful, and exhausting. Ultimately, it may have not been the right time for me to read this. The book is 4-5 stars. My experience was 3 stars. A slog. But it was my mental state and the state of the world around me that made it so. I wonder how my feelings about it will change after some time and distance.

If I weren’t helping to lead a book club discussion in the book, I may have taken more breaks to read something more fun and

*sigh*

Obviously, I'm gutted this book even had to be written. That being said, it was a very interesting look into the mind of a presidential candidate and especially one as reviled and loved as much as Hillary. It was also a good insight into what it takes to run a presidential campaign. Minus one star because I found some of the chapters a little dense and numbers-oriented (don't @ me) for this non-data gal. Onwards to 2018.

An exhaustive self-examination. It can get a little dry because Clinton loves to talk policy but it was never boring.
