I wanted my book club to pick this for our books set in Ireland theme and they did not, so I read it anyway. The book is absolutely charming. I love Gethsemane. She's like an updated Nancy Drew in that she just charges headlong into trouble without thinking/caring about the murderer trying to harm her for snooping. Gethsemane Brown is my favorite bourbon drinking snarky sleuth. I’m looking forward to this series as Maestra brown is so very smart and charming. A very original series.
I wanted to like this book. But the resolution is haphazard, and worse still, the treatment of mental illness in this book goes beyond problematic into offensive. I’d love an own voices cozy mystery series as a comfort read but this one is not it.
