Beautiful, sad, wrenching, honest set of essays. Ward pulls in some incredible authors (Claudia Rankine! Honoree Fanonne Jeffers! Edwidge Danticat!). A while ago, I'd started to think that "liberal" was insufficient to describe my beliefs, and I replaced it with "progressive," which seemed a closer match.
