I had been curious to read Emergency Contact, as I enjoy a good YA story every now and then and this one came highly recommended. When I first started it, I wasn't sure where things were going to go. However, once Sam and Penny met in person, the story really picked up. I enjoyed reading both their perspectives and seeing how they saw each other.

This is maybe a 3.5 from me but I'm rounding up. It was a little slow to start and a little draggy throughout but some of that was kind of the charm of this look at the first year of college?
I think it's more NA than YA, but it's great to have more #ownvoices realistic contemporary stuff out there, and it confronts microaggressions and class-based struggles in an organic way that

I liked this book, but I wanted it to be better. I'd heard so much about it, and apparently, a lot of that was actually just inspired by the cover design, when it all came down to it. (And I have to admit the cover design is really good and well-linked to the story itself, especially in color choice.)
