I was abroad in Cork For a semester in the early aughts and I didn’t realize how recently the troubles had been active. I took a course in modern Irish history, but the lines are blurry and this book was a compelling reminder. It’s less of a true crime book and more of a narrative history (my favorite kind) of the recent past. I found the narrative structure really well done, the research was impressive, and the writing was wonderful. Highly recommended.
