Sherlock Holmes is so delightfully conceited, with a childlike bluntness and honesty that makes him impossible to dislike. It doesn't hurt that he has the chops to back up his conceit. I love the banter between Holmes and Watson, Holmes' odd combination of ennui and ready enthusiasm balanced by Watson more level (almost irritable) nature.

What a difference three years and reading a lot of classic books makes in enjoying this book. Not that I think I didn't enjoy this book before, but I think I was looking for something different out of it.

Plenty of racism, and honestly the plot is pretty stupid. Not Sherlock's best outing. But five hearts for the story of Watson getting all smitten and acting dumb around his wife-to-be.

this book is full of the fail that comes from historical fiction written over a hundred years ago, and it made me a little squirmy. THAT BEING SAID, HELLO MARY MORSTAN, BE MINE FOREVER.
