By rereading books 1 & 2 in this series, to refresh my memory before tackling the FINALLY AVAILABLE book 3, I have managed to overly sate my own appetite for capital punishment and ghoulish 16th century forms of execution, and now I'm going to have to wait a while to even want to read the conclusion. Hopefully not another 7 years, so I don't wind up here all over again.

Oh, I enjoyed this book so much more than Wolf Hall. The author tweaked her tenses just a bit and made it so much easier to read - much less distracting. The second installment of the Thomas Cromwell trilogy carries the reader through the life and death of King Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn.
I am amazed at all the intrigue, assignations, manipulations, and power plays that went on in royal and courtly society. What a mess! But fascinating, all the same. Mantel's books make me want to read ...more
