This plot had quite a lot of potential but, sad to say, none of it was realized. None of the court cases were resolved, including the main one around which the book revolved. You never find out what is contained in the omnipresent stolen documents nor do you have any real resolution to any of the simple, loose plot threads. I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen but it never did.
Not his best. Not by a mile.

I was fortunate to win a copy of this book via a FirstReads giveaway, so my review is based on that copy. Also, it's great that everyone is sexy and attractive and you know, grills steaks by the campfire and rolls around in quilts while smuggling important documents away - your basic legal thriller requirements. I dunno. N

Grisham returns with a thought-provoking tale about the damaging accounts that strip-mining is having on the environment. At first glance, Samantha, a big-city lawyer seems to have it all but after being given a yearlong furlong, in order to keep her job, she must volunteer for a nonprofit. Suddenly the city girl has been countrified and forced to work for a legal aid facility. As her unease fades, she realizes that unlike the faceless beneficiaries the city provides, at Gray Mountain, she’s mak ...more
