Sad story, but written more as a factual account. Enjoyable read that helped me learn a bit more about the law. A terrible crime that almost wasn't even solved.

This book was excellent, but well aware of its excellence. I really got the feeling, as I was reading, that Capote knew that this was going to be his masterpiece, something that he would always be known for. I don't think that hurt the book, however; I think it lent even more weight to the vanity and self-importance of the murderers. The writing style is heavily descriptive, and very matter-of-fact. Capote is like the father of all true-crime authors and this type of book was unheard of when it was released in 1965-66. Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, helped Capote do the research for this. Not as good as I had hoped, but definitely groundbreaking in the genre.
