You should just read Lucy's review. It has spoilers, but I have the exact same complaints and she does a way better job of describing them.
I'm so disappointed in this book. I was expecting it to be one of those great experiences where you're just sucked into the story and you never want to put it down. I actually had to push myself to get through The Night Circus at all.
