Maybe my expectations for this were too high, but it just felt so ... slight. As someone else said, it does a good job capturing what it feels like to be 21/22. And it's a pretty awesome personal journal to come home with. But..... why should I care about most of it? I wanted to feel PARIS, and instead mostly I felt was like I was reading someone's Twitter about their moods and lunch. If you're going to list what you ate, or where you went, which tbh is what I'm already expecting from this kind

I think I had too high expectations for this book, having seen it featured on quite a few blogs. It was a fun read, but I think I was expecting a little bit more depth to it, and not just a travelogue. Perhaps a little more detail about her relationship with her mother, with whom she travels to Paris. Oh well.

This started out kind of flat, but picked up. It was fun to read about adventures in Paris and I loved the author's love for the fresh milk there. I also learned how foie gras is made--EWWW and I kind of wish I didn't know that. I liked the incoporation of her actual photographs too. I'm trying to read more graphic novels, so this was a good find at the library!

This graphic novel is by a young woman who in the few weeks leading up to her 22nd birthday, spends 5 weeks in Paris with her mother. Knisley is a cartoonist and they roam the city in search of good art, good food and stay in an apartment. Graphic novels aren’t my favorite, but the drawings were fun, and the book was light yet interesting. This would be a good graphic novel for adults (especially women) who are hesitant to get into graphic novels.

I think a lot of why I liked this is based on having seen Lucy Knisley speak at a bookstore a few weeks ago in honor of her new book, Relish, which I am also excited to read (and keep forever, because she drew me a croissant in this book and a potato in the other) and having some insight into her process. That said, I'm sure people who don't get to see her speak will still find this fantastic, especially if you love traveling.

I started following Lucy Knisley about a year or so after this came out and I can see her style and tone as a writer and an artist have developed considerably. I loved the atmosphere and ephemera from the trip but I felt it was missing a connection. Her further work is much improved, can't wait to see what else she does.
