A horror masterwork.
Definitely the best of Hill's three novels.
Vic is one of my all-time favorite heroines -- certainly no where close to perfect as a mom, lover, or daughter but someone who rises to the occasion and kicks ass when it's necessary.
Aside from some truly great character writing, Hill writes great passages with some of the most beautiful horror writing I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

So I got about 30% through this audiobook and then just got too grossed out and depressed. Maybe I'll try to give this another try some other time but I feel like there is no one to root for in this book which is a huge turn off for me. And it's a shame because Joe Hill has the same creepy, supernatural edge to his writing as Stephen King which makes the reader always question what is real and what isn't. But once my favorite character started talking about wanting to leave her husband and son I

1/3 - I don't know why I keep reading these horror books on planes.
1/4 - I read this almost entirely on the plane and I really need to stop reading horror movies on planes. The planes tend to amplify the freakiness of it all. I really enjoyed this book. I love the new concept and the characters are so vivid. The protagonists are not perfect but you still root for them but the real highlights are the antagonists. They are creepy, disgusting, and just reading them makes my skin crawl. Just thinkin ...more

I can't believe how quickly I went through this book; I just couldn't put it down! The story reminds me of Stephen King's fantastic yarns but with Joe Hill's distinct storytelling abilities. (What a talented family.)
Vic McQueen is the anti-heroine that you're rooting for, an Alice gone wrong with a very twisted Wonderland. Her supporting cast is fantastic --- Charlie Manx, who shares the same abilities as Vic but has lost his humanity; Maggie Leigh, another gifted woman who will never win; sweet ...more

Joe Hill's stories are horror, but kind of horror-lite, for those of us who might be too squeamish for Stephen King's kind of horror. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I love that this book reminds me of both Stephen King and Tabitha Kings novels. I felt it mainly reminded me of "It". Good dark read but not my favorite. I loved "Horns" so much I think I was expecting this book to be a little better than I actually felt it was.

This was absolutely fantastic. it's horror but it's more too; it's about relationships and family and love (and what it really is and is not). I'm shocked to see it took me 9 days; it felt like I was reading it so fast, despite its massive size.
