What Members Thought

Imagine a horror book can be charming and whimsical. Quite the thought, hm? Neil Gaiman manages to accomplish it in The Graveyard Book. The story of a boy who survives through the murder of his family and finds refuge in, of all places, a graveyard - to be raised by ghosts and other.. para-normals. Quite the tale.
I don't want to reveal too much, but this book sucked me in and I thoroughly enjoyed it. A must-read to anyone who enjoyed Coraline, by this same author. ...more

i know. i suck. but. there you go. i didn't love it, i couldn't get into the way most people did, and while i thought it was clever, i got kind of kind of irritated with the cleverness.
but it was good. totally creepy. i keep thinking that neil gaiman and tim burton are the same people - or they share a brain, at least. ...more

I enjoyed so many things about this book--I loved the fresh setting, each of the graveyard characters from history, and the campy humor. My one complaint has to do with the resolution at the end. I felt like Gaiman had built up the tension (so much so that I dreamed about a dark man) intensely and then the explanation for why Bod needed to die just seemed weak. Other than that one thing, I loved this novel!

Fun kids' book about a boy who grows up in a graveyard, after being adopted by ghosts. Hijinx ensue. The scary parts were totally scary, because I'm a wuss.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy Gaiman's writing. I will have to read the rest of his books now. :)
