Wow. I mean.. wow. This is another of those books that you see so much hype about and think there's no way it could be as good as people are saying. Just a moment while I pause and wipe away the tears.

I've read my fair share of World War II stories. I've seen it from all sorts of angles, but this was the first time I'd seen this side of it. I loved this book! History has always been a subject I enjoy, and the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII is such a fascinating and disturbing part of our nation's history that is often overlooked. I felt the characters were richly drawn, even the minor characters. I am looking forward to reading Jamie Ford's next novel. ...more

In the end, I enjoyed this story. It was poignant, but a difficult read. It never really brought me in, but I was interested enough in the story to slog through it.
