It's not that the book was bad. It's that it isn't as good as Philippa Gregory's other stuff and that's probably large due to the fact that it was her first book. The main character is devious and more than a little bit evil and yet you can't help but feel yourself drawn to her. She's a bit Scarlett O'Hara-esque.
