I didn't know what to expect from this, because it's years after "Girls" premiered and everyone got mad at Dunham, and also I've never seen "Girls" anyway. But it was both better and less obnoxious than I thought, and also still fairly myopic. I can't tell if her rare moments of acknowledgment of intersectionality were in response to the criticism she got for the show or if they were already in her, and she just didn't understand them well enough to make her show better in the first place.

This book is a solid 3.5, but I can't quite give it 4 stars - mostly because I'm an over 40 woman listening to stories from an under 30 woman which elicits way too many eye rolls. Also, I like Lena Dunham's "Girls" on HBO a lot and possibly had unrealistic expectations on how much I would like her autobiography. She is witty and funny in this book, I just wanted more. This book was a pleasant surprise.
Lena Dunham has an openness about her that I think a lot of people don't like because they misinterpret it as attention seeking. While it garners her attention, I think it's refreshing to share the bad with the good. Dunham is relatable in a way that can be uncomfortable at times.
The book certainly made me acknowledge parts of me that I would normally ignore.

This was good. I enjoyed reading it, and reading it quickly. I was happy with her openness; her willingness to discuss what others won't was probably liberating for her as well as her readers, especially the young women among us, and I will recommend it to the many <30 women I know. I've given it three stars because I'm personally past some of the issues with which she's dealing in the book, just because I'm a little bit older. Maybe it would have been four if I'd been ten years younger and read

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I am a big Lena Dunham fan and I love Girls, so I was happy to find that she is as brilliant a book writer as she is a tv writer. I laughed out loud many times while reading and found myself relating to many of her experiences (which I guess is part of why I like her so much).
