I was afraid that the subject matter would make me too uncomfortable to get through this book, but I had so thoroughly enjoyed Eleanor and Park that I wanted to at least give it a chance and not preemptively give up on it. I am so glad I did because despite the fact that the main character is basically spying on the conversation of his co-workers when he doesn't need to be, he is well aware that this is a creepy thing that will likely scare off the object of his affection.

Lincoln works as IT security for a newspaper that has just updated to computers in the late 90s. He is specifically hired to find violations of their internet policy (porn, gambling, personal/non-work related email activity, etc) and warn those who are flaunting the rules. When Beth and Jennifer's emails get picked up by the WebFence program, which flags suspicious activity, Lincoln must read the emails to find out whether it should be followed up on with disciplinary action or if it has mistakenly been flagged. Although he realizes he should probably send a warning, he decides to let it pass. As the emails continue to be flagged, he continues to let them pass until it becomes clear to him that he's never going to send them a warning. He decides he should stop reading their emails but can't seem to make himself do so because he has come to like the pair and their interactions (as well as having a bit of an attraction to the way Beth seems to come across.) What I really enjoyed about this book and the thing that kept me up past my bedtime engrossed is that one is not really sure how the book will end. Will Lincoln end up with Beth despite the squidgy nature of his voyeuristic reading of their emails or will he take what he learns from the experience and end up with someone else? I won't spoil the suspense for you, as that is the best part, but I will say I greatly enjoyed the ride and suspect you may too.

Now, I just have to wait for Fangirl to come out to get my next Rainbow Rowell fix. ...more

I loved this! The characters are so loveable, and it was a fun look back at the beginning of the 2000s when we thought y2k would cause mass chaos. It's told through emails and prose, which made it go really quickly, and made complete sense to get inside the minds of the relevant characters. ...more

I have a confession to make. I've been a Rainbow Rowell fangirl for about a year and I just finished reading a book by her. As in, I've been drooling and eyeing my copy of Eleanor and Park since March 2013 but never dove in, never picked it up even. I wanted to read it. I was dying to read it. But I was afraid to. NOTE: I listened to this book on audio.

Another audio book I thought was just "meh." I'm starting to think I don't like listening to audio books! This was a cute enough story about a guy who's job it is to read his company's employees' email, and how he falls in love with one of the employees. My biggest problem is that the guy is such a wimp! He knows the girl likes him too but he refuses to talk to her! He also has an annoying domineering mother who was totally unbelievable.
