I know most people didn't like it as much as the first book, but I liked this one a lot more. I didn't give it the full 5 stars, though, as the writing wasn't as good as I expected. POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2019: A book set in space.
It's been a while since I read the first book in this series so I found a synopsis online to remind me of the finer detail - I have a memory like a sieve sometimes!
Sadly I found this volume suffered from sequel syndrome, it just wasn't as fresh or exciting as the first one. This was exacerbated by the plot taking a while to coalesce so it dragged a bit for me in the opening act. There were also several spots of seriously heavy exposition throu ...more

Enjoyable continuation of the series, but not as clever or funny as the first book. I enjoy Scalzi's light humor that runs through his examination of real social interactions and particularly questions of how different people will treat humans that are in some way different.
