Being negative about this book is hard because Esther Earl died of cancer as a teenager. I do think that she could have been a good writer if she'd had time to develop her skills. Her short story fragments were decent. I understand that the online community was a huge part of her life and I understand why the Skype chat and the messages were included. I'm not sure why I thought it would be a good idea to read this book, based on my thoughts/feelings of reading a 'story' specifically about cancer. I try to avoid those stories. Having said that, what made me stop part-way thru this book was a question that I felt horrible actually asking in my head..."what makes one cancer experience/life/story more book-worthy than any other?" I could not continue, based solely on my personal and gut-wrenching experiences.

This is a hard one to review, it does seem that Esther was a very special girl and I appreciated hearing her story. I am not sure though that it stands out though, from other stories of families dealing with a terminally ill child.
