My first experience with a Cormac McCarthy book and I am not in a whit disappointed. His attention to detail, whether it be past or present really marks the desolation and fear felt by the man and his boy as we follow them, down the road.
Could not put this book down, not even to gasp or sigh at the coming events. McCarthys triumph in this novel is presenting a world so bleak but also characters so driven to seek out hope, somewhere in the ashes.

So this book is well written but be warned, it is very bleak. The book is set in a postapocalyptic world and follows a man and his son in their day to day struggle to survive, find food, survive another winter, etc. The tone of the book is mirrored in the sparse language. Even though the book is a quick read, I had to put it down a lot because it's pretty disturbing.

I'm not sure how to rate this book. I cant' decide if I liked it or hated it (most likely a combination of both). I definitely don't understand why everyone loves it so much. My biggest issue with it was there there wasn't any explanation about what happened, how it happened, how long things had been this way, etc. That's what I want to know in a post-apocalyptic story!

Powerful and disturbing - a horrific world described in hauntingly beautiful language. At its heart, it's the story of a father's profound love for his child.

I was dubious, but this is so gripping and spare and bleak. Fast read, stays with you.

This is really, really good.
