A nice children's book - nothing particularly special in the story, the writing, or the characters, but a good enough book to give to someone maybe age 8-12. I can imagine reading this book with my children at some point when they are just a little older (they are 4 and 7 now). I read this as part of a book club and I think the general feeling was similar -- we hadn't realized quite how targeted at young children this book is. I hadn't read a book in about two years, to be honest. Between the dissertation and the baby, my brain just wouldn't let me! My mom lent me "War Horse" in anticipation of Kevin's and my seeing the stage version for my birthday, but I didn't read it until after we saw the show.
