Part of me loved this book and wanted to give 4 stars...another part of me hated it and wanted to give 2 stars. I settled for 3. This is the story of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew's up and down (though mostly down) relationship over the course of many years, told only in snapshots of a single day each year - July 15th (St. Swithin's Day). A very clever format. So much of the story occurs in what is unsaid and the reader is left to fill in the blanks. More substantial than chick lit, but dealing

I am a dedicated 'readit1st' person. So I had to read this before seeing the movie.
I am really glad I read it, have yet to see the movie but there is so much to this story that I cant imagine the movie doing it justice! The story takes place on one day of the year during a span of time between the late 1980's and 2005ish and the lives of two people on that day. This was a great book. The characters are flawed but lovable, and you get to know truly know them over the course of 20 years. It was funny, moving and heartbreaking, all at once. I didn't want it to end.
One Day reminded me a lot of the novels of Lisa Jewell, who never gets much credit for being anything more than another British chick-lit author, but I think she is as good, or even better, than this. Try Roommates Wanted or Vince & Joy if you're interested. ...more

This was a great book- I really loved it. A very interesting concept- it looks into the life of Dexter and Emma, friends from college in the '80s, on the same day every year. I didn't think I would like a book set up like that, but it really drew me in and I couldn't put it down. I kept wanting to read the next year's chaper to see what happened...I highly recommend this book!

I really didn't expect this to be anything more than a cheesy novel that would remind me why sometimes it's better to just see the movie. But I really, really loved this. Nearly cried at the sad part. Loved it, lived with it, didn't want it to end.
