3.5 stars from me! This book is fun, enjoyable, and has many interesting characters, The narrator, Ellie, is very likable, and his grandfather turns teenager cousin is so funny I can't stop laughing every time he did some crazy stuff.
Combining science fiction with realistic setting, family and friendship and the transition period of a middle grader, Jennifer Holm has successfully enchanted me with her book. The next one in the series looks as cool, I can't wait to delve into it!! ...more

So funny--Jennifer Holm is fantastic at creating just the right mix of funny & meaningful. Great characters, especially Melvin, and lots of charm. Great for girls & boys. I couldn't stop reading this book.

Loved how this book points young readers toward loving science. It's a great book to prompt elementary kids to start thinking about the ethics of scientific discovery.
We listened to this as an audio book on a road trip. Some parts seemed to drag a little and this wasn't as beloved as our previous audio books (Origami Yoda), but my eleven-year-old liked it pretty well. ...more

11-year-old Ellie has never really gotten along with her grandfather Melvin, until one day he shows up at her house as a 13-year old boy! Melvin has discovered a way to reverse aging, but now he must find a way to sneak back into his laboratory before someone steals his invention. As Ellie and Melvyn work together to form a plan they begin to learn a bit more about each other as well. A funny read that blends sci-fi with realistic fiction is sure to be a hit with tweens.

Re-read in 2023 in order to prepare questions for our Battle of the Books. I enjoyed the book so much when I read it with my daughter a few years ago that I decided to include it on my students' Battle list. Several students have read it this year and loved it. I thoroughly enjoyed it a second time!
