this is a beautiful book. and it also is one of the most beautiful things to hear, the version where meryl streep reads and george winston plays music. it's utterly gorgeous, and makes me cry every time i hear it.

I know there's a good message buried in this book. and I loved my stuffed animals as much as anyone when I was a kid. Yet somehow this book always distressed me as a child, and even now I don't love it. the ending seemed sad, somehow, to me. Not the worst book I've read, but I just never enjoyed it.
