I stayed away from this book for a long time because everyone always says it's so depressing and that cover (sorry everyone, I hate it). What a mistake! I picked this up at a time when I felt like I needed something heavy and engrossing, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. I can't remember the last time I was so immersed in a book. Utterly devastating. So many tears. Like the film “Dear Zachary,” I’m not sure I can in good conscience recommend this book to anyone who cannot endure its horrors. But it is beautifully written. And the narration is so very wonderful. It took me six months on and off to read, but the last eight hours were done very quickly as I could not stand to not know what would happen to Jude.
