Confession: I didn't like The Princess Bride when I first saw it when I was eleven years old.
However, I saw it again when I was in college and I fell in love with it at that time. I've been a fan ever since.
I originally purchased As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride as a print book, but then I heard great things about the audio version and decided to give that a go instead. I picked up the book to look at pictures and I'm going to keep it to share with my kids a ...more

I have seen The Princess Bride more times than I can count. I often joke that someday I will grade essays by only leaving remarks from the movie. I have read the original book almost as much as I've seen the movie. In fact, I tell people that The Princess Bride is the only book that's as good as the movie and vice versa.

So enjoyable! I absolutely love The Princess Bride, since reading it as a child, to watching it as a kid and adult and rewatch and rewatch and repeat, repeeeeat. Who didn't dream about their own Wesley and the kiss that left all other kisses behind? I still quote from that movie any chance I get. It's like a second language. These lines are classic and memorable.

I love "The Princess Bride," but you learn very little about the production of this movie that is interesting. Instead, Cary spends most of the book praising the brilliance of everyone involved in the production. Compliments have no meaning, because Cary offers them liberally.
This would have been an excellent oral history article that took about 20 minutes to read. Instead, it's a 7 hour audiobook.
