Poor Rump! Born with an incomplete name given by parents he never knew. And then one day he discovers a magical ability that quickly becomes a curse...

What a fantastical point of view looking from the other side of Rumpelstiltskin's classic tale. In the vein of the Wicked books, we see a lighter, more empathetic side to a classic villain, long thought of as a vile little imp out to trick a poor village girl made into a queen. A very charming story with a bit of adventure to boot!

A delightful take on the Rumpelstiltskin fairy tale! This provides a fresh look at the familiar tale, showing Rumpelstiltskin in a sympathetic light. I always enjoy a good fairy tale retelling, especially when it offers an alternative point of view from a seemingly unlikeable character who was maybe just misunderstood. This seems like a fun series for middle grade readers, as well as for adults who like fairy tale retellings.

I used this as my pick for the 2020 #AACPL Reads "secret menu" prompt

Very interesting retelling, a little slow in places, and I'm not certain why some characters (trolls) had to be there, but overall very satisfying. ...more
