On one hand, I wanted something light and funny and this is exactly that. On the other hand, it is pretty forgettable and there were plenty of essays at which I barely cracked a smile. The short essays are stories from Notaro's life and make for easy and fast reading. The essays that I didn't really like seemed either frantic or assumed that I had read the Notaro back catalog (I haven't) and know all the participants (I don't). I love Laurie Notaro and if I ever write a book, I know I would want it to be one like this - funny, touching, and utterly memorable. Notaro write about what she knows - her family, her neighbors, her life. She does it in a series of vignettes that could easily stand alone, but combine to make the a very solid and interesting book.
