i would recommend this book to people who enjoy:
1. Dragons
2. Stuffy British characters
3. Extraordinary level of detail in each scene
4. Military maneuvers
It's probably safe to say this is: Master and Commander, now with dragons! (Tho I've never read M&C, so really I'm just guessing.)
I do kind of like dragons, but I'm not big on the other things, so this book really dragged for me. If I had been reading a paper book, I would've DNFed, but it was an audiobook, and therefore easy enough to keep list ...more

Dragons and wars! Napoleon Bonaparte! Battle scenes and wise creatures!
I rolled through this book - scarcely able to put it down from start to finish. I gobbled up every fight scene, every interaction between Captain Laurence and Temeraire, his magnificent dragon.
Here's what I loved most about this series: the Dragons speak! And not only that, they speak well! I felt a little thrill down my spine when Temeraire first addresses Laurence and that thrill repeated itself again and again as I watche ...more

I don't know what I expected when I picked this up, but it certainly wasn't what I got! I was unsure when I started because the writing is very formal (like Laurence himself), but by the time the dragon hatched and started talking, I was in!
