Where’d you go, Steve?

Away from the phone and computer to finish this laugh-out-loud book!

Reading this was a fine Christmas present to myself plus a great book to hit my 2017 Goodreads reading challenge goal too!

The approach is unique, the writing crisp and easy and it’s an unusual yet plausible story that had me laughing on nearly every page. Even the “Reading Group Guide” at the end includes a related “story” that originally appeared in the New Yorker in the same general style of the book here

I loved it because it was told from a perspective of a girl who loves her mother fiercely despite her quirks and the little disasters that are partly her fault and partly the fault of the crazies around her. I listened to the audio version of the book, and think I may have liked it more if I had read it. Basically, it was ruined for me by the narration: I thought Bea came off as an 8 year old, instead of a girl of 15. All the women's voices came off as way over the top for me. I've seen many 5 star reviews of the audiobook, but it just didn't work for me! ...more

I really enjoyed this funny, horrifying, and super compelling book. I was sad I had to return it to the library but quickly finished once it came back to me. I loved almost all the characters from the quirky Bernadette to her precarious daughter with the funny name.
