I read this book as part of Read Harder Challenge 2017 for Task 24: Read a book wherein all point-of-view characters are people of color.
This book is about lives of two different generation of four family, mothers that were born in China but had to immigrate due to difficult situations and their daughters who born in USA.
Chinese parents are strict and unforgiving and daughters are more or less desperate in some period of their lives to run away from this extreme authority.

I'm not really sure why I waited 28 (!) years to read this, but finally, I got around to it. And I didn't love it as much as I thought I would. I feel like the structure was more of (barely) connected short stories than a novel, and it kept me from really getting attached to the characters, because every time it would start to get good, the story would switch to someone else. It didn't help me keep everyone straight either, for that matter. I did find the ending quite poignant and I cried a litt
